FRCOphth Part 1 Study Plan
A good FRCOphth Part 1 plan is simple: find your weak spots early, cover the whole syllabus systematically, then spend your final weeks turning knowledge into exam performance. This four-phase plan works whether you have a couple of months or longer, and scales to the time you actually have.

Start with a short diagnostic across every basic-science domain. The goal is not a score to be proud of. It is an honest map of where you stand, so your revision can target the topics that will raise your mark the most.
Work through each domain in turn (anatomy, physiology, optics, pharmacology, pathology and the rest), pairing focused reading with exam-style questions on the same topic while it is fresh. Interleave related domains so the connections reinforce each other.
Use your per-domain accuracy to prioritise. Spend disproportionate time on the topics you score lowest on, let spaced repetition resurface material just before you would forget it, and use the AI tutor to unpick the reasoning behind your mistakes.
In the final weeks, shift to timed, mixed practice that mirrors the real thing. Review every question you get wrong, confirm the underlying principle, and track your readiness so you walk in knowing you are prepared.
